The Bushnell-Prairie City High School girls basketball team concluded the pre-holiday portion of its schedule Monday, dropping a 66-10 Prairieland Conference South Division contest to visiting Illini West.
The Chargers improved to 3-7 overall, 1-0 in division play. B-PC slipped to 2-8 overall, 0-2 in Prairieland South contests.
B-PC’s Justice Klinedinst scored the game’s first basket, but the Spartans did not score the remainder of the opening eight minutes.
Meanwhile, Illini West got seven points from Lanie Housewright and five from Adelyn Carlisle in rolling out to a 20-2 lead.
The second period saw nine different Charger players combine for 19 points. Meanwhile, the Spartans managed just a Scarlett Countryman free throw in falling behind 40-3 at halftime.
Illini West led 50-5 entering the final frame.
Klinedinst scored four points for B-PC, followed by Jersey Jones and Mylee Chenoweth with two points each.
Kendyl McCleery and Countryman added one free throw apiece.
In all, 13 different players scored for Illini West.
Housewright led the way with 12 points, while Carlisle added 10 for the Chargers. Lexis Carle scored nine for the victors.
The abbreviated JV contest consisted of one half with a 20-minute running clock.
Illini West posted a 31-5 win.
Chenoweth and McCleery scored two points each, while Countryman added a free throw.
Mya Torrance topped Illini West with eight points.
Both teams will begin tournament play on Friday.
B-PC will head to Princeville, facing the host Princesses (9-4) at 10:30 a.m. The tournament continues Saturday and concludes on Dec. 29.
Illini West heads to Beardstown to play in the Lady Tiger Classic.
The Chargers are seeded 19th out of 24 teams and will face No. 14 seed Canton (4-7) at 10:30 a.m.
The winner of that game will face No. 3 seed West Hancock (8-1) at 1:30 p.m. The loser drops into the play-in loser’s bracket.
The tournament continues Saturday before resuming play on Dec. 29 and concluding the following day.
