Bushnell Stock Yards Co. – Bushnell, IL
The Bushnell Stock Yard was a central facility where farmers and cattlemen brought their animals — usually cattle, hogs, sheep, or horses — to be sold, traded, or shipped to larger markets.
They were essential links in the farmto- market chain before modern trucking and refrigeration made direct sales more practical. Frank Jones was the yard superintendent in 1929 at the Bushnell Stock Yards and reported the sales weekly to the local paper. In the 1930s there were six stockyards in the Bushnell area, Bradford Comm. Co., Bushnell Stock Yards, Davidson Comm. Co., Morey Livestock & Comm. Co., Wingate Commission Co. stockyards, and H. E. Wood. The images show a panoramic view of the Bushnell Stock Yards Co.
