TSPR One Small Step Listening Event

StoryCorps' 'One Small Step' initiative, which aims to bring humankind together one conversation at a time, and Tri States Public Radio (TSPR) has teamed up with Story-Corps to share stories of individuals 'matched' to discuss their sameness versus their differences. TSPR was one of four public radio stations across the nation to take part in the 2025 One Small Step program.

A special 'One Small Step' listening event, open free to the public, will be held beginning at 5 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 18 at TSPR, 320 W. University Drive in Macomb. The event will feature conversations between community members, showcase how 'One Small Step' brings people with differing views together and behind-the-scenes insights from the facilitator and intern, WIU Graduate Student Cristina Heras Marcos.

The locally-produced stories with join other One Small Step stories in the Library of Congress Folklore Archives 'The motto for One Small Step is 'More Conversation. Less Polarization.' Prompts and questions from StoryCorps are used to get the conversation started, and allow each person to share their views and why they believe what they believe in, their values and more.

Since its launch nine years ago, nearly 6,000 people across 50 states have participated in a One Small Step conversation. For more information, email [email protected].

About StoryCorps

Founded in 2003, StoryCorps has given over 660,000 people, in all 50 states, the chance to record interviews about their lives. The award-winning organization preserves the recordings in its archive at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, the largest single collection of human voices ever gathered, and shares select stories with the public through StoryCorps’ podcast, NPR broadcasts, animated shorts, digital platforms, and best-selling books. These powerful human stories reflect the vast range of American experiences, engender empathy and connection, and remind us how much more we have in common than what divides us. StoryCorps is especially committed to capturing and amplifying voices least heard in the media. The StoryCorps Mobile Booth, an Airstream trailer that has been transformed into a traveling recording booth, crisscrosses the country year-round gathering the stories of people nationwide. 2023 marked StoryCorps’ 20th anniversary.
