WP/SE Girls Notch Road Victory At Peoria Heights

The West Prairie/Southeastern High School girls basketball team opened its week Monday with a 62-25 victory over host Peoria Heights in a Prairieland Conference crossover contest.

The Cyclones breezed out to an 18-5 lead after the opening eight minutes before extending the advantage to 33-9 at halftime.

WP/SE enjoyed a 52-18 lead heading into the final period of play.

Madelynn Sullivan topped the Cyclones with 27 points. She also added five rebounds and three assists.

Alivia Barkley also finished in double digits, adding 15 points for WP/SE.

Madison McClure and Maicyn Shipman chipped in six points each, followed by Josie Hodges with four points, Addy Stanberry with two and Payton McGrew with one.

McClure and Ashlynn Kelley both recorded a team-leading seven rebounds for WP/SE. Barkley and Kelley also added two assists apiece.

Barkley and Kelley had three rebounds each.

Sylvia Thornton had 19 points and nine rebounds for Peoria Heights (0-8).

West Prairie/Southeastern (4-4) returned to action Thursday, heading to Galva to face the Wildcats in non-conference play.

On Saturday, the team heads to United High School to begin play in the United Holiday Tournament.

The Cyclones will face Illini Bluffs at 9 a.m. before playing West Central at noon.

WP/SE will then complete pool play Dec. 16 against Ridgewood before wrapping up tournament play with one final contest on Dec. 18.
