Michael “Mike” Ray Draughan
68, of Bushnell
Michael “Mike” Ray Draughan, 68, of Bushnell, Illinois, passed away at 2:44 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2025, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on July 13, 1957, in Jacksonville, Illinois, to Franklin and Patricia (Self) Draughan Sr.
He is survived by his life partner, Suzie Hoover of Bushnell; four children, Steven Miller of Fairview; Chris (Janice) Draughan of Bushnell; Andy (Kristen) Draughan of Macomb; and Hallie (Alex Busby) Draughan of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren, Landon (Chloe) Miller, Dariann (Taylor) Thompson, Madison (Braden) Fonner, Mason, Myles, CeCe, and Caleb Draughan; one great-granddaughter, Kynlee Thompson; his sister, Connie (Steve) Chambers of Canton; several nieces and nephews; and of course his two favorite dog pals, Ramon and Noodle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Sue Rhoads, Debbie Draughan, and Pattie Draughan; and two brothers, Carol and Franklin “Harv” Draughan Jr.
Mike graduated from Bushnell-Prairie City High School in 1975, having recently celebrated his 50-year reunion. He attended Carl Sandburg College before transferring to Quincy Tech, where he obtained his Autobody Repair Certificate. He opened Draughan Autobody in Bushnell in 1977 and later added Sweet Pea Limousine to his business named after his Sweet Pea “Hallie”. He proudly owned and operated the business for 42 years retiring in 2019, although he stuck around for his 43rd year just to bug Earl.
Mike was a man who refused to let Velcro shoes go out of style. He had a great sense of humor, was a hard worker, and also knew how to play hard. The family can only hope Old Milwaukee Light is prepared to survive the fourth-quarter drop in sales following his passing.
After retirement, Mike purchased a 45-acre hobby farm to keep himself busy. It quickly became the place that kept his family close, gathering there nearly every weekend. With the farm, however, came two fierce enemies: the groundhogs and the otters. His brother-in-law Steve was put in charge of “mitigation,” but they proved too aggressive, earning Steve a nickname the family won’t soon forget. He enjoyed mushrooming, fishing, four wheeling, and hiking when the kids were younger. Mike also maintained near-daily “office hours” at Ricco’s in Marietta. Last Friday, he made an early afternoon departure from this world to meet his brothers, Carol and Harv, for Happy Hour in Heaven.
Following Mike’s passing, he was able to help others continue their own journeys through the gift of tissue donation made possible by Gift of Hope.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Martin-Hollis Funeral Home. Cremation rites will be accorded following visitation. A celebration of life is being planned for a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the McDonough County Humane Society. Please sign the guestbook and leave condolences at www.martinhollisfh.com.
