Historic Chicago Songwriter at Hickory Ridge

Hickory Ridge Concerts welcomes longtime Chicago singer-songwriter Chris Farrell to the stage on Saturday, December the 13th at 7:00 pm at the historic Ellisville Opera House in Ellisville, IL for a rare downstate performance. For over 50 years Chris Farrell has been a pillar of Chicago’s famed singer-songwriter scene. He easily flows from ballads to satire, from comic songs to social commentary while always finding room for the sweet tunes you’ll hum on the way home.

He learned his craft by sharing the stage with the legendary acts of the '70s and '80s and emerged with his own brand of songwriting and showmanship to carry on this proud tradition. Presenting his finely crafted songs with solid clear finger picking, beautiful melodies and rich vocals, he adds stories and humor to offer a well-paced show and first-rate command of the stage that only decades of experience can produce.

Upon arriving in Chicago, Chris saw how well his blue collar roots in the coal mining towns of Pennsylvania fit right in with the city's heritage of folk songs and straight talk writers and journalists. He quickly found a home at The Old Town School of Folk Music and continued for forty-two years as one of the most respected faculty members in the school's nearly seventy year history.

The Hickory Ridge Concert Series is hosted by singer-songwriter Chris Vallillo. Concerts are usually (but not always) held on the 3rd Saturday of the month and begin at 7:00 p.m. with the doors opening at 6:00 p.m. The Ellisville Opera House is a second story venue however they do now have an elevator and is air conditioned. Coffee, drinks, and a variety of desserts are available during intermission. There is an admission charge of $10.00 per adults with children under 12 free. Hickory Ridge Concerts is supported in part by WIUM 91.3 FM, your source for NPR programming, local news and a variety of music, the Two Rivers Arts Council, The Illinois Arts Council, and the Doris and Ken Kolb Foundation.
