McDonough County Republicans Host 'Red, Right & Ready' Forum

The McDonough County Republicans held the 'Red, Right & Ready' Republican candidate forum Dec. 2 at Spoon River College Outreach Center.

According to Gwynne Worthington, chair of the McDonough County organization, the event offered the more than 100 attendees the opportunity to hear from candidates running on the GOP ticket. Candidates for the 17th District Julie Bickelhaupt and Dillon Vancil outlined their priorities, while 36th District Senate candidates Brad Beekman and Patrick Harlan spoke on their key issues. Candidates from the 94th District, Bailey Templeton and Joshua Higgins, were also present to answer questions.

Incumbent Norine Hammond was unable to attend.

In the race for Ninth Circuit Judge Carissa Bryant shared her qualifications, with other county-level officials also taking part, including incumbent Sheriff Nick Petitgout. Challenger Joe Moon was unable to attend. Current McDonough County Treasurer Dana Moon and County Clerk Jeremy Benson provided brief remarks regarding their respective positions.

'This was a positive opportunity for civic engagement,' Worthington said. 'We had a strong turnout and interest from voters.'
