Rockets Glide Way Past Spartans

The Bushnell-Prairie City High School boys basketball squad returned to action Friday, hosting Rushville-Industry in non-conference play.

In the varsity contest, the visiting Rockets outscored the Spartans in each of the first quarters on the way to notching a 54-39 victory.

RIHS recorded its first win, moving to 1-3 on the season, while B-PC slipped to 0-6.

The Rockets opened up a 16-10 lead after the opening eight minutes before outscoring the Spartans 16-6 in the second period in building a 32-16 halftime advantage.

RIHS outscored B-PC 14-10 in the third period to build a 46-26 advantage heading into the final eight minutes.

The Spartans had three players reach double figures in scoring.

Cam Shinn finished with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds for B-PC.

De’Arion Ruffin-Thomas added 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Braylon Griffitts added 10 points and four rebounds.

Connor Palm added a three-pointer to round out the Spartan scoring. Ray Adler chipped in four rebounds and two assists.

Carter Fretueg topped RIHS with 25 points, 16 rebounds and five assists, while Keaton Ruth added 10 points off the bench.

Jackson Spencer was next with five points, followed by Rylan Reimolds and Cayden Flowers with four points each.

Jagger Bartlett chipped in three points, Eli Ayers two and Chase Bickerman one for the Rockets.

The JV contest saw RIHS rally from an early deficit to record a 43-33 victory.

B-PC led 10-2 after the opening period as John Malda scored eight points for the Spartans.

RIHS outscored B-PC 13-8 in the second period to close the gap to 18-15 by halftime.

The Rockets zoome past the Spartans in the third quarter, outscoring the hosts 16-6 in taking a 31-24 lead heading into the final stanza.

Malda topped B-PC with 15 points. Charles Rudolph was next with eight points, followed by Dylan King with six points.

Landon Ferguson and Thomas Anderson chipped in two points each for the Spartans.

Ruth led RIHS with 27 points, 16 in the second half.

B-PC returns to action Thursday, heading to Biggsville to face West Central. The following evening, the Spartans will host ROWVA/Williamsfield.
