The Macomb High girls wrestling squad finished sixth out of 16 teams in Saturday’s Carson Dejarnett Tournament held at Homer Musgrove FieldHouse in Sterling.
Despite sending just six wrestlers to the competition, the Bombers posted a team score of 76 points.
Plainfield South won the team title with 170.5 points. Galesburg was second with 116 points, followed by Sycamore (98.5), St. Charles East (91.5), Sterling H.S. (85) and MHS.
Macomb had three wrestlers record second place finishes.
At 125 pounds, Maria Hernandez won two of her three matches, earninging 12 team points.
Hernandez opened with a 10-5 decision over Yuliana Manrique from Plainfield South before pinning Limestone’s Keilana Huynh in one minue and 53 seconds to advance to the final.
In the title match, Hernandez was pinned by St. Charles East’s Valentina Solorzano in 1:42 to finish runner-up.
Also posting a second place finish was Dru Hyde at 145 pounds, who finished her day with a 2-1 record, scoring 12 team points.
Hyde opened by pinning Polo’s Alleah Pennington in 1:16 before pinning Plainfield South’s Zola Burdette in 3:01 to win her semifinal match.
In the final, Hyde was pinned by Sterling’s Vivianna Torres in 3:35 in settling for second place.
Bomber Avery Lundgren brought home a second place finish in the 190-pound division, scoring 12 points.
She pinned Galesburg’s Macie Taylor in 0:59 in the semifinals before losing by pinfall to Plainfield South’s Kimyra Patrick in 2:22 in the title match.
Two MHS wrestlers brought home fourth place finishes.
At 145 pounds, Dana Kane finished fourth, earning seven points.
Kane was pinned by Sterling’s Torres in 0:55 in her first match before defeating Sycamore’s Mira Roots by an 8-6 decision.
Kane next defeated Plainfield South’s Burdette by forfeit before losing to Dixon’s Rachel Lance by pinfall in 0:19.
Also finishing fourth in her weight class at 170 pounds was Aleigha Sharon, earning seven points.
Sharon suffered two losses by pinfall, one to Galesburg’s Jasmine Dillard (0:25) and the other to Sycamore’s Frankie McMurtry (0:09) in the third place match.
Also wrestling for the Bombers Saturday was Jazmyn Nateras in the 235-pound weight class.
Nateras was defeated in both of her matches as she was pinned by Sterling’s Arianna Tamayo (0:56) in her first contest before losing to Sycamore’s Rayanna Graziano (1:44) in her second contest.
The Bombers girls are slated to return to action Friday at The Munch Invitational in Pontiac.
