Bomber Boys Grapple At Dejarnett Tournament

The Macomb High boys wrestling squad finished 13th in Saturday’s Carson Dejarnett Tournament held at Homer Musgrove Field-House in Sterling.

The Bombers posted a team score of 34 points.

Dixon H.S. won the team title with a score of 261 points.

Jeshua McPheeters won the individual title in the 190-pound division, posting a 3-0 record.

McPheeters defeated Dixon’s Seth Shaffer by 7-0 decision in the opening round.

He went on to defeat Galesburg’s Cale Johnson by a 14-10 decision in the semifinals.

In the title match, McPheeters defeated Sterling’s Colt Buntjer by a 3-1 decision.

Also placing for the Bombers was Kyler Miller, who finished fifth in the 138-pound class.

Miller had a busy day on the mat, wrestling six times in all, finishing with four wins.

Miller started with a 7-3 decision over Clinton’s Joaquin Donaire.

Miller was pinned by Tucker Ullrich of Rock Falls in two minutes and 58 seconds before winning his next two matches.

He recorded victories by decision over Mason Weger of Woodstock (8-1) and Ryder Falvre of Polo (2-0).

Miller suffered his second loss of the day as he was pinned by Aiden Volz of Newman in 5:02. But he bounced back by defeating Donaire for the second time, this time by a 5-4 decision to wrap up his day.

Five other wrestlers saw competition for the Bombers on Saturday.

At 106 pounds, Jonathon Bullock finished 0-2. He was pinned by Sterling’s Chase Coyle in 1:02 and Sterling’s Chad Bennett in 0:12.

At 165 pounds, LJ Barry finished 0-2, losing by pinfall to Limestone’s Ezarah David (1:07) and LaSalle-Peru’s Charley Clifford (5:07).

At 175 pounds, Johnny Powell posted a record of 1-2 on the day.

Powell lost his opening match to LaSalle- Peru’s Beau Lawrence by pinfall in 1:10.

Powell responded by pinning Du-Pec’s Mason Meinert in 3:46. But in his last match of the day, Powell was pinned by Blake Dingley of Dixon in 1:37.

At 215 pounds, AJ Moon finished 0-2. He was pinned by Sterling’s Sidney Eichen in 0:47 before losing a 12-0 major decision to LaSalle-Peru’s Endrew Sell.

Finally, at 285 pounds, Conway VanFleet finished 0-2.

He was pinned by Galesburg’s Landon Petty in 1:51 and Clinton’s Sloan Weaver in 0:52.

The Bombers are scheduled to return to action Tuesday, heading to Galesburg for meet action with the Silver Streaks and Farmington.

On Saturday, the Bombers will take part in The Munch Invitational at Pontiac.
