Lt. Todd Tedrow was sworn in as Macomb’s interim police chief Monday by City Clerk Rene Lotz. Tedrow, who joined the Macomb Police Department in 2009, takes over for Jeff Hamer, who retires from the department today. The city council voted to make Tedrow’s salary retroactive to October 20, the day he began working with Chief Hamer to take over the chief’s duties. Mayor Mike Inman said the city’s search for a permanent police chief will begin in January.
In other business at this week’s city council meeting, aldermen voted to authorize a police department application for a grant to fund updated training equipment and firing range materials. The equipment includes eight cases of ammunition and two sets of targets. City grant writer Jessica Biddenstadt said no local matching money is required from the city. The grant comes from the NRA Foundation;s Northern Illinois state fund.
Also Monday, the city council voted to adopt a resolution authorizing a $6.5 million bond issue to support projects at the Wesley Village Retirement Center.
Administrator Shelly Martin said $4.5 million would be used to refinance existing bonds and the remainder would be used to create assisted living apartments.
Morton Community Bank is the bond lender. Martin said $600,000 in private donations has been raised toward the project. She said the new apartments should become available by October or November next year.
Aldermen voted to create a video gaming liquor license for Lucky’s Landing at 504 West Jackson Street. Also approved was creation of a special event liquor license for St. Paul School Trivia Night from 6 -11 p.m. January 31.
Council members also approved a resolution reappointing Dr. Christopher Stortzum to a second term on the Macomb Airport Authority Board of Commissioners. His new term runs through January 1, 2031. Aldermen voted concurrence with the mayor’s acceptance of the resignation of Ed Myers from the Macomb Planning Commission.
