To say that this week was not a normal week is an understatement. Several reasons.
This week contained Thanksgiving. We should be thankful every day but often aren’t so there is one special day set aside to say Thanks. My family has grown smaller and now there are just 6 of us closely related on the Steiner side. Fixed the usual turkey, dressing, potatoes, gravy and cranberries. Tried something different by baking the turkey on Wednesday evening. Cut it off the bone and put the carcass in the slow cooker all night so that I had broth and meat for the dressing and gravy. Worked great though the turkey may not be quite as good. Also saves having to clean up the turkey mess on Thanksgiving Day. Enjoyed the day spent with family. Sal spent the day locked in the bathroom or he would have been sitting in the middle of the food table. He is an onery kitty. Friday included a wonderful Kelso auction! Really fine antiques were offered for sale. One problem is that I am only one person and they ran two rings. As I have to buy for resale, I did not get a lot of items but was glad I was able to see such nice things. Small furniture items did very well but very large, very beautiful furniture pieces did not. Most people just have no way to handle huge furniture pieces no matter how special they are. There were also some very nice paintings and pictures offered.
When in high school, my future plans included college but it was a tossup whether it would be home economics or physics. The space program at that time made me lean toward physics. I have always been a fan of the space program and all the many scientific break throughs that have come from it. Senator Mark Kelly is a hero in my eyes. Not only has he flown missions for NASA, he has been through a very public nightmare with having his wife shot. I respect him very highly. To have our president personally attack him and threaten him with death was very sad for me and many other Americans. Mark Kelly deserves our respect.
Our November has had strange weather. We have had no freezing temperatures so had not covered my fish ponds. Today I covered two of them despite temps in the 20’s and inches of snow on the ground. Also put out food for birds and squirrels and heated water bowls for them. Not easy when it is so cold and with so much snow on the ground! Scooped one lane of the drive yesterday while the snow was wet and before it froze. Since there was no one at the store on Saturday due to the weather, I closed out the month. There is always something to do even when the weather does not cooperate.
The Plymouth American Legion will have a soup supper on Saturday, December 6th at the Legion building on the west side of the square. Serving will begin at 5 pm. There will be a variety of soups plus maid rites, dessert and drinks for a donation.
Hope you had a good week. Hope you found things to be Thankful for. May December bring good things into your life and may you help others to have a good December also. Scattering Kindness and Love is more important now than ever in our divided country. One can disagree with another’s opinion without being disagreeable.
