The Macomb Zoning Board of Appeals voted unanimously last Wednesday to allow backyard parking at 806 North Lafayette Street. Property owner Tammie Leigh Brown -Edwards told the board that no one can park in front of the property because it runs along Highway 67.
Edwards said she was advised to extend the driveway in the backyard and petition for a parking variance. Community Development Director Miranda Lambert said her staff supports the request. She said the variance is warranted.
In other business, Lambert asked the board to consider merging with the Macomb Planning Commission. She said this would allow common issues to move along more quickly.
Lambert said the merger would also fit in with an updated comprehensive plan and could reduce the number of members. She said the nearby cities of Monmouth and Galesburg have already merged their groups.
Board Chairman Ron Runser said, 'Right now we've got about three layers of bureaucracy. That ought to change.'
Board member Suzan Nash said she believes a merger would allow for greater efficiency.
