At the Nov. 18 meeting of the McDonough County Board, members approved the county's Fiscal Year 2026 budget, along with the 2025 tax levy.
The county's fiscal year runs from Dec. 1-Nov. 30. The Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations budget (all funds) passed is $24,966,978. The largest budget appropriations include the county's general fund ($7.1 million); self-insurance fund ($4.1 million); liability insurance ($1.7 million); public safety sales tax ($1.6 million), and county highway ($1.4 million). The estimated receipts and disbursements for the county's general fund through November 2026 total $5.8 million and $7.2 million, respectively.
The county's tax levy 2026 of 1.38824 percent was approved, which includes corporate and special use levies, and is a 1.13 percent increase from the 2025 levy. The levy will raise approximately $7.96 million for the various county funds, according to County Clerk Jeremy Benson.
In other business, Macomb resident Allen Henderson was unanimously approved to fill the vacant term left by the resignation of Board Member Dustin Berg, and a new contract was approved with the Teamsters Union, which provided a 5 percent salary increase over the next three years. It was also reported that the August sales tax collected totaled $341,000.
