Township Transit Agreement Approved

The Macomb City Township Board voted Monday to pay $2,200 annually for van service for general assistance clients. The Macomb Public Transit Department will dedicate one driver each day to provide the service to deliver clients to the township office and to other appointments.

“Some people are missing their appointments. This will make it easier for them,” said Alderperson John Vigezzi Township Supervisor Angela Markley reported that 38 general assistance applications were reviewed in October with six denials and 10 pending decisions. There were seven men and four women declared employable, nine men and 10 women who’ve applied for disability, and four men and four women declared medically exempt from employment. Funds totaling $11,102 were distributed last month, the most being $8,088 for shelter expenses.

Vigezzi asked Markley if the economy is generating more general assistance requests, and she responded that it is. In addition to the November list, she said she is receiving applications for December. Markley reported there are currently 45 general assistance clients on the rolls.

The township board also voted to approve an estimate of the township tax levy for 2025-2026. The estimated total is $360,515.
