95, of Rushville
Nancy Ann Stauffer, 95, of Rushville IL died Friday, November 14, 2025 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield IL, with her family by her side. She was born June 13, 1930 in Buenavista Township, Schuyler County IL the daughter of Arthur and Elsie Inez (Clements) Stephens. She married Robert Eugene Stauffer on December 25, 1948 at the First United Methodist Church in Rushville, IL.
She is survived by two sons: Michael Allen (wife Karen) Stauffer of Rushville and their 2 children, Kristen Michelle (husband Eric) Streeter of Mahomet, IL and their son, Grant Alan Rexroat of Indianapolis, IN, Eric Ryan (wife Melissa) Stauffer of Rushville and their daughter, Amelia Elizabeth; and her second son, Gary Robert Stauffer of Macomb, IL and his children Feana Kara (husband Jason) Nevel of Springfield, IL and their daughter, Emaline Malea, and Breann Rose (husband Matt) Weaver of Colchester, IL and their children Easton David & Jaxon Robert.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years Robert Eugene Stauffer, her parents, her sister Doris Madelyn Schoonover, her brothers, Harold Arthur (Bud) Stephens and Jimmie Ray Stephens.
Nancy met Bob in high school where their first date was at the RHS 1945 Homecoming dance when she was the sophomore attendant. He was her first and only love. Once graduated, as an Army Corps member stationed in Chanute AFB in Rantoul, IL Bob would regularly hitchhike home for a weekend to see Nancy. It was on one of those weekends that they celebrated their Christmas Day 1948 wedding in a small ceremony with just family until the Big Six, as they were known, (Bob’s best friends) crashed it. Bob was perhaps more delighted about it than Nancy. Bob was discharged from the military in October of 1949 and they soon started their family with the birth of Mike exactly one year, Christmas day, 1949 after their marriage. They lived in the Camden area and the Littleton area before moving into their newly built home in Rushville in 1962. And so Nancy has lived her entire life in Schuyler County. They were active members of the Littleton United Methodist Church until their move to Rushville. Nancy was a current member of the Rushville United Methodist Church where in the past she and Bob annually arranged the Consecration Sunday meal.
Unknowingly, Nancy’s first job was also her last. She began out of high school as a telephone operator at Schuyler Telephone Company. She soon advanced to office jobs and 44 years later retired in 1992 as the office manager of Schuyler Telephone Company, then a Rochester Tel subsidiary.
Nancy served after retirement as the curator of the Schuyler Jail Museum, having a grand interest in genealogy. But her main interest her entire life was supporting her husband in all his endeavors and raising her family and enjoying her grandchildren. She was an organizer and efficiency expert in all areas of her life.
At 95, she managed all her financial aspects on Quicken, printed her checks from there and uploaded her accounts. Her cooking was outstanding and as Bob always said she “Nancified” every recipe”.
In later years, their most enjoyable times were their annual winter treks to Orange Beach Alabama.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at Worthington Funeral Home with Rev. Stacy Tomich officiating. Interment followed in Rushville City Cemetery.
