The Macomb Salvation Army's Angel Tree program is one of the longest running holiday toy programs in the region, and in the coming days, Angel Trees will be set up all over town to help area children in need.
According to Macomb Capt. Ron Felt, the local chapter held a month-long registration for families to take part in this year's program. The Macomb church-based organization will provide meal boxes to around 200 McDonough County families and toys to nearly 300 children during the 2025 holiday season.
'We count on donations through the Angel Tree Tags to supply those toys,' Felt added. 'We greatly appreciate the businesses and organizations that are hosting Angel Trees to make area families' holidays a little brighter.'
Angel Trees are set up, or will be set up at the following locations:
• Farm King
• Wal-Mart
• University Union (sponsored by the Western Illinois University Office of Student Engagement) To participate, visit any Angel Tree and take an 'angel' from the tree. Shop for the specific items on the child's angel and return to the store/organization with the new, unwrapped gifts by the deadline specified on the tag.
Nationally, the Salvation Army's Angel Tree provides gifts for over one million children in the United States each year, with the exact number of families served varying by location. Overall, the organization serves nearly 28 million people each year.
