To the community, HyVee, West Prairie School Band, the schools, WIU, ROTC, the teachers and the students, the Veteran's Organizations and all who helped we veterans feel special on Veteran's Day-- we thank You!
All the thank you letters were special and enjoyed by veterans but I would like to share one letter written by a Macomb Middle School student. This letter stood out and was given to the American Legion Commander, Larry Zigler, to be read during the ceremony for all to enjoy. Here is that letter: “Dear Veteran, I would like to start by saying thank you. Thank you for all the sacrifices you made for this country. I know it mustn't have been easy, but I am grateful for all you have done. You are the reason I can walk and feel safe, fall asleep without keeping one eye open. One of your predecessers may even be the reason I am alive. I believe in keeping safe the wonderful little things, and I suppose you may too, seeing as you are here, reading this letter. I forget sometimes that you were a child once too, and that you too recieved these joys of seeing a brave person in uniform, protecting all that walk aside them in the sharing belief of the country's hope. I hope you are proud. Sincerely,...'
Thank you all for giving us a special day.
