The in-person support group, GriefShare, will offer a special 'Surviving the Holidays' program beginning at 2 p.m., Nov. 16 at Maple Avenue Christian Church in Macomb.
Organizers Terri Gilliland and Debbie Ruebush introduced the GriefShare program to the community in 2022. The two women serve as facilitator for two groups, which meet every Wednesday for 13 weeks at The Crossing and Maple Avenue Christian Church. The women both lost their husbands in Spring 2021 and found a quick friendship when they were introduced. Fall 2025 marked their ninth Grief-Share Experience.
GriefShare's parent ministry, Church Initiative, is a nondenominational, nonprofit ministry serving more than 20,000 churches worldwide. The organization creates and publishes curricula to help people experiencing life crises, like the loss of the loved one. Ruebush leads the program at The Crossing in Macomb from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesdays, while Gilliland leads the group from 10-11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays at Maple Avenue Christian Church in Macomb.
The Nov. 16 holiday program focuses on the grieving that can hit especially hard during the holiday season. For more information or to register, call (309) 337-5653. Advance registration is required.
