Wild Columbine, a Springfield, Illinois area music ensemble, will bring the music of the 18th and 19th Century to New Copperfield's Book Service, 120 North Side Square, Macomb, Saturday, November 15, at 2:00 P.M.
Seasoned performers Sally McDaniel- Smith, Megan Thornberry, and William 'Bill' Furry bring a wealth of experience to their music, enriching their performances by providing historical context that enhances the audience's understanding and appreciation of the pieces they play. Their instruments, violin, flute, mandolin, guitar, concertina, harmonium, whistles, and bodhran, are the instruments used when the music was first performed. But far from being a sterile academic excercise, Wild Columbine brings energy and humor to their performance and knowning something of where the songs come from adds to the enjoyment.
The event is free and everyone is invited. New Copperfield's Book Service is an independent, general interest bookstore on the north side of Macomb's historic downtown square, with books available in stock and by special order. It carries a selection of general interest, children's books and educational toys, with special emphasis of local history, local music and local authors.
