llinois F.O.P. Endorses Sheriff Petitgout for Re-Election

McDonough County Sheriff Nick Petitgout received a unanimous endorsement Tuesday from the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Spoon River Valley Lodge 427 as he seeks re-election in 2026.

In a letter from Ike Hackett, president of Lodge 427, the FOP praised Petitgout’s long-standing dedication to public service since joining the McDonough County Sheriff’s Department in 2007. Hackett highlighted Petitgout’s progression through several roles before being elected sheriff and noted his active membership and support within the FOP.

“Sheriff Petitgout has proven himself as a dedicated public servant for the citizens of McDonough County,” Hackett wrote.

“He understands the unique needs of law enforcement officers and will work hard to ensure the safety of both our officers and the public.”

Hackett also pointed to Petitgout’s leadership as president of the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association as evidence of the respect he commands among his peers.

“We feel confident he will continue to represent the best interests of McDonough County’s residents and law enforcement officers with strength and capability,” Hackett said.
