The Macomb High girls swim team wrapped up its regular season Monday hosting the PORTA coop at the MHS Pool.
Fielding just seven swimmers due to injury and illness, the Bombers ended up dropping a 79-64 decision to the visitors.
“We just had ‘Peak Week’ (my positive spin on ‘Hell Week’) – six days of some super intense training,” said MHS coach Tonya Hamer via email. “They haven’t even started tapering, just the one day’s rest.”
Despite the recent heavy workload in the pool, the Bombers recorded 13 personal records (PRs) on the day, winning five events.
“They did so great. Outstanding,” Hamer noted. “Can’t wait to see what they do Saturday (at the sectional meet).”
Results for the Bombers were as follows: 200-yard medley relay – MHS (Kallie Merrill, Hannah Zhang, Lucy Buchanan, Lily Goc), first, two minutes, 25.94 seconds (PR).
200 freestyle – Rylee Mackey, second, 3:12.31 (PR).
200 individual medley – Goc, second, 3:25.91 (PR) and Ridley Lewis, third, 3:37.84 (PR).
50 freestyle – Merrill, second, 31.10 (PR) and Jazmyn Nateras, fifth, 49.72 (PR).
100 butterfly – Buchanan, first, 1:17.72 (PR).
100 freestyle – Zhang, first, 1:02.53 (PR) and Nateras, fifth, 1:56.81 (PR).
500 freestyle – Goc, third, 7:42.77 (PR) and Mackey, fourth, 8:40.21 (PR).
200 freestyle relay – MHS (Lewis, Nateras, Buchanan and Zhang), second, 2:32.23.
100 backstroke – Merrill, first, 1:22.04 (PR).
100 breaststroke – Zhang, first, 1:27.36 (PR) and Lewis, fourth, 1:45.86 (PR).
400 freestyle relay – MHS (Goc, Mackey, Merrill and Lewis), second, 5:29.97.

Other schools joining the Bombers in Pekin will be Biggsville West Central, Dunlap coop, East Moline United Township coop, Galesburg H.S. coop, Geneseo, Metamora coop, Moline H.S., Pekin coop, Peoria Notre Dame, Peoria Richwoods, Pittsfield, Quincy Notre Dame, Quincy Sr. High and Rock Island H.S. coop.
