Community Rally Raises Food and Funds for Families in Need

Thanks to the generosity of local residents, the November 1 “Government Shutdown” Rally and Food Drive in Chandler Park collected 165 pounds of food and $150 to help families in need during the ongoing federal shutdown.

The donations will go directly to the Western Illinois Regional Council (WIRC) to support local families who rely on food assistance programs affected by the shutdown.

“Our community showed up once again,” said event organizer Caren Bordowitz. “While Washington gridlocks over power and privilege, people here in Macomb are stepping up to take care of each other.”

The McDonough County Democratic Central Committee continues to host weekly rallies at Chandler Park, Saturdays from 12–1 p.m., highlighting the impact of government decisions on working families and advocating for fairness, accountability, and compassion.
