“I am return'd your soldier. No more infected with my country's love.” It might be the resounding response many have about the way of our country today, but before our time, there was another man who originated the feeling, and that was Caius Marcius “Coriolanus.” Based on the tale originally woven by William Shakespeare and directed by Amie Root, the Western Illinois University Department of Theatre and Dance presents “Coriolanus” as its next production, running from Thursday, November 6, through Sunday, November 9. Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday through Saturday, with matinee shows at 2 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, all at Horrabin Hall Theatre.
A relentless warrior in Rome, Coriolanus never backs down from conquering the battlefield regardless of the stakes. However, his disdain for the common people might hurt him in the long run, as his pride costs him power and leads to exile. Forming surprising alliances with enemies past, it’s up to Coriolanus and his newfound bondsman to torch the city he once defended until a final, heart-wrenching choice between vengeance and loyalty seals his fate. So, where will he stand when tested by time?
