Chicago-born artist Ann Blaas will bring vibrant vitality with her “True Nature” exhibit, opening Tuesday, November 4, at the Annex Gallery at Western Illinois University. A reception for the artist will also be held on opening day from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
After earning her MFA from Northern Illinois University in 1996, Blaas established herself as an abstract painter distinguished by her vivid use of color and dynamic compositions. Her work merges graffiti-inspired abstraction with poetic, referential elements, creating pieces that are both visually striking and deeply evocative. In addition to her artistic achievements, Blaas has inspired students as a mentor and educator at College of DuPage, Harper College, and Joliet Junior College.
A multi-award winning recipient, Blaas will challenge spectators to define their own true nature through her exquisite, thought-provoking works. “True Nature” will be on display until Friday, December 5. The Annex Gallery (located across the street from the University Art Gallery on the bottom floor of the Heating Plant) is open from 9 a.m. to noon and again from 1 to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Admission is free and open to the public.
