The fall concert of the WIU Steel Band will be held on Friday, November 7th, 2025 at 7:30 pm in the COFAC Recital Hall on Western Illinois University’s Macomb campus. Admission is free and open to the public. The band, under the direction of Dr. Rick Kurasz, is made up of 10 members and will perform a combination of Soca, Reggae, and Calypso music, as well as pop tunes like “Don’t Leave Me This Way” by Thelma Huston. Parking is available on sit. The Recital Hall is accessible from the Sherman Drive parking lot, as well as other Faculty/Staff parking lots.
A steel drum is a percussion instrument originating in Trinidad, made out of an oil drum with one end beaten down and divided by grooves into sections to give different notes.
