The 2025 season for the West Prairie and Bushnell-Prairie City High School volleyball squads came to a conclusion this week.
The teams played in the Illinois High School Association Class 1A Regional hosted by Deer Creek-Mackinaw High School in Mackinaw.
In Monday’s opening- round, No. 8 seed West Prairie defeated No. 9 seed Peoria Christian 25-15, 18-25, 25-19.
The Cyclones featured a balanced offensive attack throughout the entire match. Alyvia Barkley tallied nine kills, followed by Madison Adams and Alexa Barkley with six kills each.
Niah Zimmerman added five kills and Jaycee Reynoso four kills for West Prairie. Reynoso also recorded two total blocks.
Abby Starbuck and Madelynn Sullivan had 10 digs each.
Niah Zimmerman had one service ace and 10 points scored, while Macy Branch added two service aces and eight points scored.
Starbuck chalked up three service aces.
Also in Monday’s opening round, No. 1 seed Illini Bluffs defeated No. 16 seed B-PC 25-9, 25-8.
Brynlee Beekman, Caroline Spangler, Josephine Farwell, Justice Klinedinst and Jayden Johnson tallied one kill apiece for the Spartans.
Johnson and Kyra Shamblin had three digs each, while Kallie English, Jules Kreps and Klinedinst added one dig apiece.
Beekman also tallied five set assists as the Spartans finished the season with a final record of 0-27.
Tuesday’s quarterfinals saw No. 4 seed Tremont defeat No. 14 seed Peoria Heights 25-14, 25-10, while No. 5 seed Deer Creek-Mackinaw rallied to defeat No. 12 seed Midwest Central 22-25, 25-17, 25-21.
Wednesday’s semifinals saw West Prairie lose to Illini Bluffs 25-12, 25-11, finishing its season with a final record of 20-17.
The second semifinal saw Tremont defeat Deer Creek-Mackinaw 25-18, 22-25, 25-7.
Thursday’s regional final at Mackinaw had Illini Bluffs (26-3) facing Tremont (19-17) with the victor advancing to sectional play next week at Abingdon.
