The Colchester Fire Protection District is proud to announce the installation of a new Automated External Defibrillator (AED) at Argyle Lake State Park, an important step in improving emergency preparedness and public safety for visitors to the park.
The AED has been strategically placed in a central, easily accessible location within the park to ensure that lifesaving assistance can be provided quickly in the event of a cardiac emergency. It can be found on the front entrance of the shower house at Twisted Oaks Campground. This initiative reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to protecting residents and visitors through proactive emergency response measures.
“Seconds truly matter in a cardiac emergency,” said Micheal Phelps, Paramedic, Assistant Chief of EMS. “By placing an AED at Argyle Lake State Park, we are ensuring that both our first responders and the public have immediate access to a critical lifesaving tool. This installation has the potential to make the difference between life and death.”
The project was made possible through the collaboration between the Colchester Fire Protection District, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and the support of community members. Funds used to purchase the AED were provided by our Memorial Fund. AEDs are designed to be simple and safe to use, even by bystanders with minimal or no training. When used in combination with CPR, an AED can dramatically increase survival rates for sudden cardiac arrest.
