Mayor Inman honors Macomb City Township Supervisor Angela Markley

Mayor Mike Inman proclaimed Monday as Angela Markley Day. The occasion was her 20th year as Macomb City Township supervisor.

Inman spoke of Markley’s “unswerving attention to good government.”

Alderman Dave Dorsett, a longtime opponent of separate township government, made light of his position in congratulating Markley.

“I tried to get rid of you,” he said. “But you’re still here and I’m still here.”

In other business, the township board discussed an agreement between the Macomb Public Transportation Department and Macomb City Township.

Transit Director CallaBria Putrino said the township will pay $183 per month for its clients to use demand response vans.

Also Monday, Township Assessor Glenda Bryan reported that new assessment notices have been mailed. She said November 7 is the deadline for appeals to be filed with the McDonough County supervisor of assessments.

Markley reported that four general assistance applications have been received so far for October There were 26 applications reviewed for September. She said decisions are pending for 17 applications and that six applications were denied. The supervisor noted that anyone receiving Supplemental Social Security Income or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families is not eligible to receive general assistance.

Of the September applicants, three men and three women were determined to be employable and seven men and five women applied for disability. Markley said four men and five women were declared to be medically exempt from employment.

General assistance clients received $16,469 for September with the largest amount being $6,830 for shelter expenses.
