Happy Howl-o-ween!
The Humane Society of McDonough County (HSMC) and the Western Illinois University Pre-Vet Club will host a Dog Trick-or-Treat Day beginning at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 26 at Spring Lake Park, north of Macomb.
The event will feature a dog walk, costume contest and shelter animal adoption opportunities. There is no charge to participate, but donations are welcome and will benefit the shelter animals. And if those who wish to attend don't have a dog (or has a dog who might not want to take part), shelter dogs will be available for a 'Dog Day Out' for the event. A volunteer waiver must be completed through the McDonough County Animal Shelter, and minors must be accompanied by an adult when participating in the 'Dog Day Out.'
'This gives our shelter dogs an opportunity for a much-needed day out of the shelter,' noted HSMC Volunteer and Board Member Kathy Waters.
For more information, or to sign up as a volunteer, contact the McDonough County Animal Shelter at (309) 837-2989 (leave a message if no one answers), or email mcas@macomb. com or humanesociety.mcil@gmail. com.
The local humane society is in the midst of its New Shelter Building Campaign. To date, close to $970,000 has been raised for the new McDonough County Animal Shelter. Recently, the City of Macomb agreed to lease land just east of the current shelter on Tower Road for the construction of the new shelter. According to HSMC President Bonnie Smith-Skripps, at least an additional $500,000 will be needed to complete the project.
