The Macomb Planning Commission voted unanimously last week to recommend approval of a special use permit for rooftop solar panels at the Clean Getaway Car Wash at 1631 East Jackson Street. The recommendation has gone to the Macomb City Council for final action.
The commission did not act on a companion request for a ground-mounted solar unit inside the car wash.
Community Development Director Miranda Lambert said supporting information on that aspect of the project was insufficient for her to make a recommendation.
She said that request could be submitted to the commission at a later date.
In other business, commissioners voted to recommend approval of a special use permit for front yard/ side yard parking at 605 Memorial Drive. Lambert said the existing driveway would be extended to the south to eliminate parking on the grass.
Property owner Kenneth Ray told commissioners that his tenant, Helen Haviland, has two vehicles and the present driveway is not wide enough to accommodate both. He said that he would put in a concrete driveway to replace the current driveway and extend further to the south.
Commissioner John Bannon expressed his approval of that strategy.
'Ripping out the existing concrete and putting in a new driveway will give the property a good look,' he said.
