Prescription Drug costs can change year to year depending upon several factors.
Your drugs might change from year to year, your pharmacy might offer different drug prices year to year, or your drug plan could change how they cover different drugs.
Don’t be caught unaware of those costs and be surprised in January of 2026.
Open Enrollment is a period from October 15 to December 7 where people with a Part D drug plan can choose a different drug plan or a different pharmacy. Investigating your drug plan through the medicare. gov website is a great idea. If you need assistance with exploring your options, please consider utilizing the YMCA Senior Center.
Our SHIP trained counselors give unbiased comparisons and can help you enroll in a plan that suits you. Sometimes your current plan does remain the best option, but it is always good to check.
What can you do? Stop by and get a yellow Medication List at the Senior Center. Fill the information out completely and return it before October 1. This gives our office a chance to review plans for you and then call to explain options. You may need an appointment to explore the plans. We cannot do this comparison until the prices are released for 2026; but we will get on it as soon as possible. This is a free service and luckily, we should still be able to provide it for our area seniors. Seniors have saved money switching plans and that is important especially if you are on a fixed income.
People that have retired with a state health plan or from a company that provides a health plan will need to talk to their representatives. We cannot work with those plans as that is a separate system. Our office is open from 8:00 to 4:30pm Monday-Friday. Call 309-837-5733 if you have questions. We will start taking appointments October 1.
