After more than 24 years with the Macomb Police Department, including just over two years as chief, Jeff Hamer has announced his retirement to pursue opportunities in the private sector.
A Western Illinois University graduate originally from Bolingbrook, he has called Macomb home since 1996. Before joining the Macomb Police Department, Hamer served three years as a jailer with the McDonough County Sheriff’s Office for a total of 27 years of service to the community. He and his family will remain in the community, where his wife teaches and they are actively involved in several local organizations.
Hamer was appointed chief on July 28, 2023, following a nationwide search. Prior to that, he served as interim chief for four months.
An official announcement from the Macomb Police Department and the City of Macomb will be issued soon.
