MFD Installing No-Cost Smoke Alarms in Macomb

In a collaborative effort with the nonprofit Camp I Am Me and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal (OSFM), the Macomb Fire Department will be installing no-cost smoke alarms for residents of Macomb as part of the Be Alarmed!

Smoke Alarm Installation Program. This initiative provides smoke alarms and fire safety materials to Illinois fire departments to both educate the public and equip homes with life-saving devices.

The statewide smoke alarm blitz campaign, scheduled for October 19–25, unites fire departments across Illinois to promote fire prevention and ensure homes are equipped with properly functioning smoke alarms. As part of Fire Prevention Month, the Macomb Fire Department will be installing 10-year sealed battery smoke alarms to improve home safety and protect families in the community.

Along with smoke alarm installation, the program also educates families on how to develop and practice home fire escape plans, giving residents the knowledge they need to act quickly and safely in the event of a fire.

“Our primary goal is to ensure all residents have the lifesaving protection of a smoke alarm,” explains Chief Meyer. “While alarms are critical, they are just one part of the equation. Knowing how to respond in an emergency is just as important.”
