The Macomb High boys soccer team wrapped up its regular season with a pair of home matches.
On Oct. 4, the Bombers hosted Alleman Catholic (12-3-1), dropping a 9-0 decision to the Pioneers.
On Oct. 9, MHS hosted Geneseo (2-15) in its regular season finale, losing the the Maple Leafs 8-1.
The Bombers trailed 3-1 at halftime.
The team’s Oct. 6 match against Limestone was canceled.
Macomb enters postseason play with a 2-16 record.
The team will begin Illinois High School Association Class 1A Regional on Friday as it heads to Canton for an opening-round contest against the Little Giants at the Ingersoll Middle School Field at 3:30 p.m.
Since beating Macomb 3-1 on Sept. 8, Canton (3-13) has lost its last 10 matches.
Meanwhile, MHS has lost seven straight matches since beating Kewanee H.S. 3-1 at home on Sept. 16.
A year ago, the two teams met in the regular season and in regional play.
Canton won the regular season match 2-1, but the Bombers edged the Little Giants 2-1 in the regional rematch.
Macomb would lose to eventual regional champion Beardstown 2-0 in the regional semifinal at Monmouth.
Two years ago, the Bombers swept the Little Giants, winning the regular season contest 3-1 before posting a 5-2 over Canton in regional play.
The Bomber then lost to host Monmouth-Rosevile 7-0 in semifinal play at Monmouth.
In 2022, Macomb lost to Roanoke-Benson/Eureka 4-1 in semifinal play at Quincy.
The Bombers enter postseason play as the No. 9 seed in the Chillicothe IVC “B” Sub-Sectional.
Seedings for the sub-sectional were as follows: 1. Rock Island Alleman, 2. Beardstown H.S., 3. Quincy Notre Dame, 4. Abingdon -Avon, 5. Illini Bluffs/Farmington, 6. Kewanee H.S., 7. Monmouth-Roseville, 8. Canton, 9. Macomb and 10. Port Byron Riverdale.
The winner of the Canton/Macomb match advances to semifinal play on Oct. 21 at 4:30 p.m. against top seed and regional host Alleman.
The match will be held at the Alleman Athletic Complex, located at 1186 43rd Ave. in Moline.
The second semifinal at 6:30 p.m. will have Abingdon- Avon facing Illini Bluffs/Farmington.
The regional title match is scheduled for Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.
The victor advances to sectional play at Chillicothe.
