Fresh off an exciting homecoming win last week against Peoria Heights, the Bushnell-Prairie City High School football squad was looking to play spoiler Saturday afternoon.
Making the trip to Cambridge to face Ridgewood in its homecoming contest, B-PC aimed for a second straight victory.
The hosts had other ideas however, rolling to a 70-12 Illinois 8-Man Football Association West Division victory.
B-PC dropped to 1-5 overall, 1-3 in I8FA West Division play. Ridgewood improved to 3-3 overall, 2-2 in West play.
The host Spartans dominated the opening 24 minutes, scoring eight touchdowns, while also converting all eight two-point conversion attempts.
Gavin Franks ran for 245 yards and four TDs on just 10 carries in the opening half. He scored on runs of 18, 28, 60 and 92 yards.
Crew Roberson added scoring runs of 64 and 18 yards, while Wes Sandburg added a 24-yard TD run.
The other Ridgewood score came on a punt return late in the second period, giving the home team a 64-6 lead at halftime.
Trailing 24-0, B-PC scored when Jonavan Harrell returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown with 1:45 left in the opening period.
B-PC’s other touchdown came on the second half kickoff when Landon Lear broke free for a 75-yard scoring return.
Harrell rushed for 60 yards on 11 carries as the Spartans had 18 total carries for 68 yards.
Quarterback Thomas Anderson completed one pass in five attempts for four yards with one interception. Parker Groutage had the reception for B-PC.
Defensively, Andre Watts had five total tackles, while Lear added four. Harrell and Cam Shinn chipped in three tackles each.
B-PC returns home next week to face West Prairie/Southeastern (0-6, 0-4 West) in the Iron Spike contest.
