After church on Sunday September 14, Bethel Baptist Church took part in the national 'Bells across America' event by ringing their bell. The General Macomb Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution encouraged local churches with bells to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. Constitution was signed on Sept. 17, 1787 at 4 P.M. Eastern Time.
This occasion also marked the first time the church's bell was rung following the platform replacement project during the summer. Contractor Tim Fross constructed the new platform and David Crabb Sr. used a crane truck to move the bell.
The Bethel bell was originally located at the Elvaston Baptist Church, a congregation that shut its doors in the 1940s. This congregation donated pews to Bethel, and when Bethel men arrived to transport the pews, the Elvaston members insisted that they also accept the bell.
