Area H.S. Volleyball Teams See Early Week Action

The West Prairie, Bushnell-Prairie City and Macomb High volleyball teams took to the court this week for action as the calendar turned to October.

On Monday at Colchester, West Prairie was defeated by visiting Mendon Unity 25-8, 21-25, 25-22.

Alyvia Barkley recorded with kills for the Cyclones, while Alexa Barkley added seven kills and Niah Zimmerman five for the hosts.

Abby Starbuck tallied 11 points, while Macy Branch added five points, including three service aces.

On defense, Starbuck finished with 10 digs, while Alyvia Barkley added seven digs.

Alexa Barkley chipped in 1.5 blocks, while Madelynn Sullivan handed out 21 set assists.

Unity improved to 15-3 on the season with the win. The West Prairie JV defeated Mendon Unity 25-18, 25-8, improving its record to 14-1.

Also on Monday, visiting Elmwood improved to 17-3 on the season, defeating B-PC in two sets 25-4, 25-6.

Kyra Shamblin had seven digs for the Spartans. The B-PC JV was victorious, rallying for a 25-27, 25-18, 15-10 victory.

On Tuesday, B-PC returned to action, hosting Macomb in a Prairieland Conference South Division contest.

The visiting Bombers moved to 3-0 in league play with a 25-9, 25-15 victory.

Jersee Mills recorded five kills, five digs and 10 service points, including three service aces for MHS.

Jordan Hines added five kills, eight digs and nine service points for the Bombers, while Cadence Hotz chipped in five kills and one block.

Dakota Thorman and Reva Koeppen tallied four kills each, while Emily Westerhold recorded 10 digs.

Sophie Wilson added 12 set assists and three digs, while Anistyn Lovell had six set assists and five digs.

Caroline Spangler and Josephine Farwell had two kills each for B-PC (0-10, 0-1 Prairieland South). Spangler also had a solo block.

Shamblin finished with 12 digs, while Brynlee Beekman added four digs for B-PC. Farwell had three digs, while Spangler and Aubrey English added two digs apiece.

Beekman also recorded four set assists and Farwell two for the Spartans.

The MHS JV posted a 25-5, 25-14 victory in completing the sweep.

In Wednesday action, West Prairie notched a road victory, winning at Payson-Seymour 25-13, 17-25, 25-16.

West Prairie improved to 10-11 on the season, while Payson-Seymour slipped to 9-11.

Alyvia Barkley recorded 15 digs, while Starbuck added 13 digs for the Cyclones.

Sullivan and Branch recorded 10 service points each, while Starbuck added seven service points.

Niah Zimmerman tallied seven kills for West Prairie. Alexa Barkley was next with six kills, followed by Madison Adams with five and Alyvia Barkley with four.

Sullivan handed out 23 set assists. At Augusta, state-ranked Southeastern improved to 16-3 on the season with a 25-22, 25-15 victory over Macomb.

Brixley Lidaywa had six kills and two service aces, while Koeppen added three kills.

Hines tallied three kills and five digs, while Thorman had two kills.

Mills also had two kills, along with seven digs, while Wilson finished with 10 set assists and three digs.

Lovell chipped in four set assists and four digs. MHS slipped to 11-8 on the season. In JV play, Southeastern defeated Macomb 25-20, 25-20. The Bombers return to Prairieland Conference South Division play Oct. 7 at Havana before hosting Quincy Notre Dame the following evening.

Meanwhile B-PC headed to Colchester Thursday evening to face West Prairie in a Prairieland South Division contest.

The Spartans will head to Carthage on Oct. 7 to face Illini West in Prairieland South Division play.

As for West Prairie, the Cyclones head to Riverton Friday and Saturday to play in the Riverton Fall Classic.

West Prairie will face Champaign Centennial and Springfield Southeast in pool play Friday evening.

On Saturday, the Cyclones wrap up pool play against host Riverton before playing one crossover contest to wrap up tournament play.

Next week, West Prairie will host Southeastern in the program’s annual “Pink Night” contest.
