For many years Smithfield was a very important stop on the Spoon River Drive.
The ball park, then the down town was filled with dealers and food vendors. Seems there was a change in policy and vendors were no longer able to set up in the village. Just want you to know that the Red Brick School is still in full operation during the Drive. This year’s dates are October 4th and 5th and 11th and 12th. The school will be open all those days.
In the school you will find Plymouth Rock Antiques and many other vendors including Another Thyme, vintage clothing; Amy Bradshaw, Amy’s Pillows; Grace Cowger, Scentsy product; Angela Davis, wooden flower arrangements; Aimee Howerter, crafts; Deb Lutz, Fractals; Lois Redman, Floral Presence; Murdock Greeting cards; Repairs Unlimited; Toni Scott, Grandmas Attic; Judy Waloch, Hand crafted wine cork Christmas trees and I am sure more by this weekend. Be sure to check all three floors!
Then there is the food! Busses come in for the home-made chicken and noodle dinners. There is also home-made pie, cake, cinnamon rolls, apple dumplings and more. Dinners are served from 11 am to 3 pm but the vendors are open longer hours.
Just outside the door is a church sponsored home-made ice cream stand.
You will also find free parking, indoor rest rooms, a ramp in the stair well for handicap use, the carvings of Bill Swango and more.
Well worth your time. The School is located 2 blocks west of the highway. Look for the signs and come and enjoy all the Red Brick School has to offer.
