Dr. Reginald Lewis, saxophonist and educator, was born in Camden, New Jersey, and received his first horn at age 16 from his grandfather, Philadelphia jazz legend Robert “Bootsie” Barnes. A dynamic performer, he appeared in Universal Studios’ Get On Up as a saxophonist in Little Richard’s band and has shared the stage with artists such as Super Duty Tough Work, Quincy Davis’s Q5, and the Thelonious Monk Tribute Band.
Before moving to Illinois, he held a weekly engagement at “The Yellow Scarf” in Jackson, Mississippi, hosted by Grammy Award–winner Cassandra Wilson. His recordings include projects with Jon Gordon (Stranger Than Fiction), Nasir Dickerson (Let It Shine), and Mir Fontane (Camden). Recent festival appearances include the 2024 Chicago Jazz Festival, Hyde Park Jazz Festival, and Further Jazz Festival.
