The West Prairie/Southeastern Cyclones hung close for one half before West Central pulled away in the second half enroute to a 36-0 victory over the visitors in an I8FA West Division contest at Biggsville.
The loss dropped WP/SE to 0-5 for the season and 0-3 in the West Division. West Central improved to 4-1 overall, 3-0 in division play.
The Cyclones took the opening kickoff and drove 56 yards in 14 plays before the Heat defense held at its own 24 on downs.
West Central proceeded to march 76 yards in 10 plays. The drive culminated on the first play of the second quarter when running back Cooper Gibb took it in on a nine-yard touchdown run.
Gibb also converted the two-point attempt to make it 8-0.
The West Central defense continued to bend, but not break, as WP/SE drove to the Heat 17 before a fumble turned the ball over to stop the threat.
Taking over at its own 23, the Heat struck quickly.
Running back Cam Robinson broke several tackles and sprinted 77 yards for a touchdown with 6:46 left in the first half to make it 14-0, a lead the Heat would take into the locker room at halftime.
Following another WP/SE turnover, West Central extended its lead to 22-0 with 6:02 left in the third quarter when Robinson scored on a 12-yard run and also added the two-point conversion.
The Heat made it 28-0 when quarterback Colton Spence hit an open Reed Plate who sprinted 70 yards for the touchdown with 2:42 remaining in the third quarter.
It was the only pass thrown in the game by West Central.
The Heat would add to the lead with 5:53 left in the game when Eli Vancil broke loose down the left side for a 31-yard touchdown run. Graham Kelly added the two-point conversion to account for the final score.
Robinson led all rushers with 10 carries for 141 yards and two touchdowns.
Austin Nelson led the Cyclones with 117 yards on 19 carries.
WP/SE returns home to Baumann Field in Sciota Friday night to host Flanagan-Cornall/ Woodland (3-2, 2-1) in an I8FA West Division contest.
It will be homecoming for the Cyclones.
