A Colchester teen has been arrested on gun and DUI charges after an enforcement stop by Macomb police early Saturday morning.
An officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation and discovered the driver was impaired.
The driver, Wyatt Parks, 19, of Colchester, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. During the arrest, officers found Parks carrying a loaded pistol on his person.
He faces charges including DUI Alcohol, Illegal Possession or Transportation of Alcohol, and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Parks was released after processing.
Macomb Police Chief Jeff Hamer praised the officer’s vigilance.
“Our officers are diligent in DUI enforcement. We believe enforcement saves lives. In this instance, the officer may have prevented a violent tragedy.”
Hamer told Community News that there's no evidence indicating Parks intended to commit a violent crime, but said, "the potentential was high."
Parks is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
