
James Alan Meriwether, 79, of Blandinsville passed away at 8:25 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2025 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side.
Jim was born on September 3, 1946 in Macomb, Illinois to William Sr and Ferne Grigsby Meriwether. He married Sherry Thompson on January 13, 1968 in Blandinsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Luan Meriwether; one brother-in-law, Morris “Tink” Kempher and one sister-in-law, Rosalyn Meriwether.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry; daughter, Stephanie (Scott) Raimer of Hannibal, Missouri, sister, Carolyn Kempher of Blandinsville; brother, William Meriwether, Jr of Blandinsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Jim lived all of his life in McDonough County (Blandinsville). He graduated from Northwestern High School in 1964.
He worked for Hunt Implement in Blandinsville, Fred Gibbs Chevrolet in LaHarpe, and Woody Wilson Machine Shop in Blandinsville. He retired from NTN Bower in 2011 after 43 years in the maintenance department.
Jim loved gardening, being outdoors, rock hunting, riding his 4 wheeler and helping on the farm. Jim was a member of the First Christian Church in Blandinsville for over 60 years.
In his retirement he liked to go on Disney cruises. He will be missed by his family and his three cats, Finnie, Oliver, and Peanut.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2025 at the First Christian Church in Blandinsville with Pastor Gordon Blankenship officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2025 at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Blandinsville-Hire Fire and Rescue Department or the Blandin House Museum.
