In Monday night’s Macomb City Council meeting the Council approved several construction bids. Aldermen awarded $50,000 to Laverdiere Construction for concrete repairs along Western Avenue. Public Works Director Alice Ohrtmann said there are four sections along the roadway that are starting to fail. The council also awarded $54,584 to Complete Asphalt Service for crack sealing on several streets and $30,156 to Varsity Striping for pavement markings. A $25,200 change order was approved by the council for Visu Sewer to complete the latest sanitary sewer lining project.
Aldermen voted to join the Texas-based 791 Purchasing Cooperative. Any public agency nationwide is eligible to join at no cost. Cooperative membership will allow Macomb to receive a significant discount on scheduling software for the public transportation department. The council voted to spend $70,740 on Tripmaster scheduling software to handle cameras, GPS units, and data pad software. Transit Director CallaBria Putrino said there would also be an $82,809 setup fee but that the total cost would still be less than the $300,000 spent in the past in acquiring scheduling software from separate companies. She said the GPS units would allow online tracking of bus locations by the public and that the bus software would automatically count passengers.
The city council also approved an intergovernmental agreement with Western Illinois University for the recording and live streaming of council meetings.
