Shirley Jane Pawlias, 98, of Macomb passed away at 2:40 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2025 at Wesley Village Healthcare Center in Macomb.
She was born on October 25, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to James and Dorothy Wittbold Mason. She married Dr. Kenneth T. Pawlias on May 31, 1952 in Chicago.
She is survived by her children, Theodore (Donna) Pawlias of Macomb, Susan Hutton of Cross Plains, Wisconsin,, and Thomas Pawlias of Bettendorf, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jocelyn Hutton (Che Chang) of Millbrae, California, Thomas Hutton of Milwaukee Wisconsin, Laren (Grant) Weygandt of Bettendorf, Iowa, Grant Pawlias of Manistee, Michigan and Ian Pawlias of Macomb; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She was a graduate from National College of Education with a degree in elementary education. After graduation she taught 2nd grade in Milwaukee for two years, kindergarten in Chicago for four years and 2nd grade in Rochester, Minnesota. After her husband received a M.S. in surgery from the Mayo Clinic and the University of Minnesota Medical School, she devoted herself to raising their children and assisting her husband with his medical career.
As a citizen of Macomb, she was active in Girl Scouts, XXMD Book Club, and volunteer and fundraising activities at St. Paul Church. She was a talented musician and enjoyed cooking, sewing, and crafting. She shared her skills and creativity with her family, friends, and church fundraising projects. She loved to travel, especially to Dour County, Wisconsin.
A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m Monday September 29, 2025 St. Paul Catholic Church in Macomb. There will be no visitation. Cremation rites have been accorded.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to St. Paul Catholic Church or MDH.
