The Doctors of McDonough County Medical Society took out an ad in the Macomb newspaper as St. Francis closed, it read as follows; “The doctors of McDonough County Medical Society, publicly acknowledge their gratitude to the sisters of St. Francis, who have served our community for over 60 years. Your dedication to the care of the sick, your boundless energy for facing each day’s work,, and your inspiring faith while carrying out that work are in keeping with the highest ideals of medical care.
We shall always treasure your many “little nameless unremembered acts of kindness and of love. They have always been the better part of medicine’s role as a service to mankind.
No one could ask for more from the many fine nuns who have spent their lives here. Their example shall help us as physicians to strive to give no less.
The cold, impersonal, blunt forces of change have caused you to leave this hospital service; but the memory of your warm, compassionate, and sensitive labors shall always remain here.”
