The Macomb High varsity volleyball team played its home opener Wednesday evening, defeating Monmouth- Roseville 25-17, 25-13.

Macomb improved to 5-3 on the season, while Monmouth- Roseville dropped to 3-7.

“We’ve been working on cutting down our unforced errors,” said MHS coach Hillary Humes. “Especially back to back errors.”

“Set one we had five errors and in set two we had four, so it was good to see us play efficiently and take care of the ball against a scrappy Monmouth team,” she added.

“Our energy stayed high throughout, especially carrying over into set two whe we got out to a 9-1 lead,” Humes continued. “It was good to see them play consistently at a high level and not dip down in energy, even when we had the lead.”

Jordan Hines recorded six kills and two service aces, while Cadence Hotz added five kills and two blocks for Macomb.

Ella hare chipped in four kills, while Sophie Wilson finished with 20 set assists.

The JV Bombers also notched a hard-fought victory, edging the Titans 27-25, 25-23 improving to 3-0 on the season.

The Bombers headed to Mt. Sterling on Thursday to face Brown County.

On Friday, the varsity heads to Williamsville to play in the Bullets Invitational.

MHS will play Rochester and Newark in pool play on Friday before wrapping up pool play Saturday morning against Monticello.

Macomb will have two additional matches on Saturday in wrapping up tournament play.

Also on Saturday, the JV squad heads to Mendon to play in the Unity Mustangs JV Tournament.

The Bombers open against Beardstown before playing two other matches.

Following the weekend, the Bombers return to action Tuesday, playing at Farmington.
