The West Prairie/Southeastern football squad dropped to 0-2 on the season Friday night, losing at West Carroll 56-0.
The Thunder upped their record to 2-0, having outscored their first two opponents by a combined count of 98-0.
Making the 150-plus mile trip north to Mount Carroll, the Cyclones were unable to put together much offense against the hosts, who were playing their home opener.
West Carroll scored twice in the opening period. The Thunder needed just two plays to cover 64 yards on their first drive with Jacoby Cropper’s 40-yard touchdown at the 8:50 mark put the home team up 6-0.
Markez Barrangan’s one-yard run score, followed by the first of Francisco Ceja’s six point after touchdown kicks, gave West Carroll a 13-0 lead with 2:11 to go in the opening period.
The Cyclones stopped the Thunder on their next drive with Clarence Billingsly recovering a West Carroll fumble in WP/SE territory.
But Cropper broke loose for scoring runs of 51 and 58 yards. Barrangan added the PAT run on the first score before Ceja’s kick after the second made it 28-0 with 1:45 left before halftime.
Getting one final possession before halftime, West Carroll quarterback Winter Harrington connected with Ryker Budimlija on a 51-yard pitch and catch with two seconds to go.
That gave the Thunder their fifth score of the half and a 35-0 lead.
West Carroll then set the continuous clock in motion by scoring on its first possession of the second half.
Receiving the opening kickoff, the Thunder needed just 25%
89 seconds to score as Harrington and Cropper hooked up for a 55-yard TD that made it 42-0.
West Carroll added a score with 29 seconds left in the third period on a 56-yard punt return by Roger Laborn.
Their final score came with 1:29 left on a 16-yard run by Jack McIntyre.
The Cyclones were held to just 38 yards rushing on 31 carries.
Keith Szabo recorded 23 yards on nine carries, while Bryson Tanner added 16 yards on four carries.
Austin Nelson added 17 yards on 14 carries. QB Tristan Hester was 0-for-4 passing, while Nelson also attempted one pass that was incomplete.
Harrington finished 6-of-9 passing for 191 yards and two touchdowns.
Budimlija had two catches for 73 yards and a score, while Laborn also had two catches for 48 yards.
McIntyre also had a catch for 15 yards. Cropper ran for 150 yards on six carries, scoring three times.
As a team West Carroll finished with 308 yards rushing on 30 carries. Eleven different players recorded rushing attempts for the Thunder.
West Prairie/Southeastern opens I8FA West Division play next week, hosting Ridgewood at Baumann Field.
The Spartans enter with a 1-1 record. They won at River Ridge 50-14 in week one, but lost at home to Alden-Hebron 38-24 last week.
