Get your game on and support a most worthy endeavor Saturday, Sept. 20 at the YMCA of McDonough County.
A pickleball tournament will be held beginning Sept. 20 at the Macomb Y to benefit the 10th Annual Macomb/ McDonough County Out of the Darkness Walk, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 27. According to local Out of the Darkness Walk Organizer Susan Denecke, money raised from the tournament will go to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), a national organization focused on suicide prevention research, education, advocacy, and support for survivors.
The tournament will feature both competitive and social brackets, with play taking place round robin style. Sign-ups are by individual, and players will be paired with a different doubles partner for each round (12-15 games). The cost to participate is $25/person.
'Together as a community we have raised over $100,000 toward bringing attention to this third leading cause of death in young people 15-24, after unintentional injuries and homicide,' Denecke said. 'We hope you will join us for the tournament, the Walk or both!'
