Leonard Verne “Wheezer” Hammond

99, of Macomb, formerly of Adair

Leonard Verne “Wheezer” Hammond, 99, of Macomb, formerly of Adair passed away at 2:10 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Wesley Village Health Care Center in Macomb.

He was born on November 6, 1925 in McDonough County to Leonard and Myrtle Wilson Hammond. He married Norma Jean Trotter. She passed away in 2014.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Barb Sayers.

Leonard is survived by one son, Ed (Kandy) Hammond of Ipava; one daughter, Pam (Don) Paisley of Peoria, Arizona and two grandchildren, Erin and Ryan.

Wheezer lived in the Adair area where he farmed all of his life. He was a graduate of Adair High School. He was an Army veteran serving during World War II as a Military Police Officer for two years.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Private family grave side services will be held at a later date.
